Building On a Firm Foundation

Jul 12, 2026    Pastor Arthur J. James

This powerful message confronts us with one of Jesus' most challenging questions from Luke 6: Why do we call Him Lord when we don't do what He says? The teaching draws us into a profound exploration of what it means to build our lives on a firm foundation versus constructing our faith on shifting sand. We're reminded that true discipleship isn't measured by our religious vocabulary or Sunday attendance, but by our obedience to God's word. The sermon uses the vivid imagery of two builders—one wise, one foolish—to illustrate a critical truth: foundations determine whether we stand or fall when life's storms arrive. What makes this message particularly relevant is its honest acknowledgment that many of us have access to God's word but struggle with adherence to it. We hear the truth, we know the scriptures, but transformation only comes when we dig deep, establish roots in Christ, and build according to God's blueprint rather than our own preferences. The call here is both sobering and hopeful—sobering because it exposes our tendency to seek God's blessings while avoiding His blueprint, yet hopeful because today offers us the opportunity to realign our building assignment with the Master Builder Himself.
